“This is my son Ali. He was born two weeks ago in the Martini Hospital”
“This is my son Ali. He was born two weeks ago in the Martini Hospital. A month too early. We had to stay in the hospital for a week, before we were able to go home. Look how beautiful he is. My husband Hussin lives in Lebanon with my daughter Illaf (8) and our two sons, Hassen (6) and Mohammed (4). I lived there for the past three years as well. Before that we lived in Syria. I text my husband every day. I sent him a picture of Ali.
I left for the Netherlands when I was three months pregnant. By boat from Turkey to Greece and then via Serbia to Croatia and by train to the Netherlands. As soon as I have been granted Asylum, my husband and children will come over and join me.
With Ali, here in the refugee centre… it’s okay. I live with eight people in a room, and a baby… babies cry sometimes. I asked if I could get a room for me and Ali alone, but unfortunately it was not possible. Hey look! There is a Dutch friend of mine, coming to visit. Oooh!… She brought boxes full of clothes. For the kids, and for Ali. She is very sweet.”
